Do Low Tax Rates On Rich People Actually Ruin The Economy?

Some of the most prosperous periods in US history (1950s and 1960s) have come during periods of super-high marginal income tax rates.  And some of the most disastrous periods in US history (1930s, 2010s) have come after periods of super-low income tax rates.

In the good periods, moreover, the middle-class boomed and inequality between the country’s highest earners and everyone else shrank. In the bad periods, meanwhile, inequality soared, and the richest 1% of the population came to earn a staggering amount of the country’s income. (In the past, this inequality was addressed by a massive hiking of tax rates, which we imagine will eventually happen this time, too.

“Business Insider” certainly doesn’t sound like a liberal biased site.

It is a simple historical fact, higher taxes on the wealthy have meant prosperity of the nation.

Two Fronts on the upcoming Revolution.

DIGG was recently blogged spammed by this guy. Any economic thread he, was posting an add for his blog.

It’s interesting to see two sides calling for Revolution with such diametrically opposite views of the problem.

my friend, its the amount of tax rates that are the problem.
If I was a tax dodger then why would I want the system to be changed? I’m paying taxes through the nose like many are. You are clearly oblivious to this.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe I don’t understand justice. All I’ve ever gotten was the injustice of paying the bills for rich elite scumbags like you who think finding a legal loophole that allows to not contribute your fair share of this nations costs make you right. You are “successful” as a thief and a liar.

If everyone who made over $250,000 a years was taxed at 90% income tax, not a single one of you would be below the poverty level. Something 1/6 of the people in this nation live with EVERY DAY.
In fact… You would STILL have kept almost 2x what the federal poverty level is.

Instead, you assholes pay about 17% after breaks and special tax conditions that lets you claim money you receive is NOT income. You pay less than 98% of the nation.

Don’t you dare claim that 51% pay nothing. That $0.00 dollars is 100% of what they owe. The 17% you actually pay is less than 1/2 of the 35% you should be paying.

You are placing your comfort, ahead of the lives of those you helped deny the opportunities you had. You are sentencing people to death so you can have too much.

And HOW did you “earn” it? It wasn’t by making all our lives better. It was by figuring out how to take it away from us.

You don’t deserve the blade. You deserve to have everything taken away. To watch YOUR children starve while there is nothing you can do about. To face the humiliation of being looked down on because you’ve been without a job for 2 years, like that was your fault.

Live like me for an election cycle and a coward like you would be begging for the blade.

And it does piss me off that you are claiming that I am somehow some wealthy tax dodger. You are getting this information from where?
I have felt this recession just like everyone else, have gone through 5 or 6 part time jobs since losing my job in 2009. You are clearly too lazy and worthless to get off your fat ass and go look for a job, instead you just sit at home, come on line and complain about how you lost your job, you are just looking for sympathy.
And why are you throwing all of these statistics at me? That doesn’t prove your point in any way (whatever point that may be) and it also just makes you look ridiculous.
And I deserve to see my children starve is it? You mustn’t be a parent then. And I do look down upon you, because it is people like you who make people like me sick. I am constantly on the look for jobs, trying to support my family. What you haven’t understood yet, is that the policies you’re supporting all but guarantee some one I know in person, that horrific death already, if not me.

I’m pretty sure that revolution site is yours… right? You’ve declared war on my class. So we’re not talking but an abstract YOU either. It YOU who is calling for my death, and the death of my loved ones by lack of representation.

You live under this misguided notion that we are lazy. The truth is we’re just honest. We didn’t get to live high off the hog, ever. We live hand to mouth.

You’re worried you might not make your bills.

Several of my friends wouldn’t be eating without food stamps and food pantries. There was no slow economic decline for us. We were the first victims of the economic downturn. We are the ones who lost our jobs only to be told no one was hiring. Who today are told they are not hiring you unless you already have a job!

We owe tens of thousands for educations that where supposed to keep us out of this situation. Now we are supposed to pay off a debt at minim wage that we specifically incurred to avoid ever working at minim wage.

When is the last time you put groceries back on the shelf because you just can’t afford them?

When is the last time you washed your underwear in the sink because you have no money to clean it any other way.

When is the last time you counted calories for you and your children too see how many you can sacrifice from your diet in order to give them a little extra. Have you ever done it for the neighbors kids? I have.

You call for a revolution to stop the only organizations that are keeping us alive. About half of us are college educated at this point. We know what it means if you get your way.

It’s like blaming the Jews at the Warsaw Ghetto for the Nazi Party. All that you haven’t done to us is roll in the tanks. Yet.

What about those who have bribed our elections to the point where they no longer represent us.

You are talking Revolution. Who has paid a higher tax than us? Who is less represented? No one speaks for us anymore.

Yet you have not a single word of criticism for those who cut our health benefits and stole our pension funds. Then cut our jobs and got tax breaks for doing it. Those who crashed the system, demanded “We the People…” bail THEM out, and then refuse to sacrifice anything to pay back their debt. Not even a discomfort is allowed them at the top, while we at the bottom are slowly being shoved out of shelter and denied food.

They are not your problem right. They “earned” it. Yet you never ask HOW they “earned” it.

WE the poor, the unrepresented, the victims with nothing to defend ourselves with but our growing numbers, WE are YOUR problem. You call our very right to live an entitlement and try to take it away.

We have nothing left to take, except our lives. I don’t know what you think you are calling for, but that it the reality of your decision.

Can you honestly expect NONE of us to not wish this hell on you and yours?

When one of yours looses everything, what do they do? They commit suicide… rather than try to live like us. That is how terrible it is. That is the cruelty we bare everyday.

Still, it’s not enough to satisfy you.

I pity you if you do win. I’m actually warning you with my threats against your children. I’m trying to tell if you manage to kill us off, who do you think is next? If they can so causally kill more than half of this nation, why do you think they will arbitrarily stop at you?

Turn off Fox news. Use your head. Look at the numbers from all sides. Your way has been tried for 12 years. Everything got worse. MUCH WORSE.

This is what the Constitution was set up to avoid. You are breaking the rules of the nation you claim to try and be saving.

Why can so many of you not see that?

This is probably a waist of time. Those who won’t look beyond their parties rhetoric, who ignore the numbers that are inconvenient to their cause, I don’t believe any longer that we can find a middle ground. Even when we both want revolution.

But maybe… Maybe this Allen Clarke will look at his kids, and then check some of his facts.

Maybe… he just doesn’t know. America is huge. It isolates us from each others problems. Maybe the next time he’s watching the poor on TV he’ll get the image of HIS kids there instead of the ones who are actually there. Maybe he will imagine them growing up in the world he is creating, and give it a second thought.

Maybe he’ll come around and realize misery is not a permissible business, even if it is a successful one.
